Guidelines

• Try to arrive early as it gives you time to center yourself and calm your mind. As the door is locked after check-in it is important that you are here on time.

• If you are new to our studio and/or to Ashtanga yoga, please read the class descriptions before coming to your first class. Be sure that the class you have chosen to attend is appropriate for your level of practice. If you are unsure of the class that is best for you, please ask an instructor.

• Always let your teacher know before class if you are pregnant or have injuries or conditions that might affect your practice. Your teacher can help you to find modifications that might help or are recommended.

• Please do not wear perfume or cologne in class. The hot and humid atmosphere in the room intensifies the scent and some people have allergies to scents.

• The studio is warm and humid so be sure not to overdress. A t-shirt or tank top and shorts are recommended. Also, if you need a towel during your practice remember to bring one.

• It is not recommended that you drink any water during your practice. The body is trying to maintain heat through breath and bandhas, cold water cools the body and the kidneys have to start working. Your energy should be conserved for the practice.

• It is not recommended that you eat before practice. You may have a light snack a couple of hours before, but it is best for the body to not be digesting while you are practicing. It takes energy to digest food and it may make the body lethargic. It can also make certain postures uncomfortable.

• Always remember to listen to your body. It makes a much safer practice when allowing the body to open slowly rather than pushing yourself too quickly or too hard. Contentment with where you are and not comparing yourself to others is so important.

• Remember to turn off pagers and cell phones so the peace of the practice is not disturbed.

• Please keep your voice down while in the practice room.
