OCTOBER 14, 2017

Meet Jeremy Duplisea

Jeremy Duplisea graduated from the May intensive teacher training, and now he teaches at Santosha. Join him on the mat every Saturday at 10 am for Ashtanga.

How long have you been practicing yoga for? 4 yrs

How and when did you discover Yoga Santosha? I was living in Mission and out for a walk. I cruised past the studio and saw the sign out front. Something pushed me to enter, I talked to the manager and got a short tour. This was around March 2014.

What made you decide to take teacher training? I had been practicing and fell in love with yoga. Really I just wanted a way to share my practice and explore the tradition much deeper.

Why did you decide on taking it at Santosha? For me the story might be a bit different. I had been working there on the karma team and desk staff for over 2 years in total. I had already practiced over 700hrs in the studio. I knew all the teachers in the training and felt very comfortable with them. Also for me, It was a great chance to study without having to leave my local neighbourhood, very good choice for me in regards to the economics.

What was the greatest benefit you took from your teacher training? The idea that if I choose to do something and I put my full effort in, I can achieve it.

Did the training change your personal practice? If so, how?My practice changed in the sense that I took on more of a specialized practice focusing on Ashtanga Yoga. I practice now with more focus and attention to detail.

Did it change anything else about you?Everything changes. in the way you look at things, on and off the mat. I became more open in sharing emotions.

You have a regular class now, in what ways do you think Santosha prepared you for that? Santosha prepare me to teach, because that is what we did the first day. We taught each other some basic poses. You will teach day one, like it or not.

What do you love about teaching?I love sharing my practice with people. I love helping people see something within themselves which they may have never I seen.

What is your favourite yoga pose?Triangle is my favourite pose, then Pincha.

Anything else you would like to say about yourself, your teacher training experience, or Santosha?I love the small group setting and one month intensive. it suits my personality. Overall the training is great and the teachers are just wonderful really. Santosha and Yoga has changed my life for the better and I am truly grateful to Al and Candace, Lisa T, Lisa W, and Curran W….
