Spending Time with Liz Giles

Liz is the bomb. Truly. If you ask anyone what they think of Liz, it is the world. I have been to her class and she is straight up and leads a powerful and inspired practice. She leaves you wanting more; more of her words, more or her wisdom, and more of her presence.

I asked Marnie Harfield (who is also the bomb) if she had any thoughts to share about Liz: ‘Integrity, intelligent, funny; strong (both mind and body); great mom, spouse, daughter and friend; can’t say enough positive things about this woman.’

Learn a little more about Liz below and meet her on your mat Tuesdays 4:30 pm (Warm Strong & Slow) 6:15 pm, (Warm Yang/Yin) and Fridays 6:15 pm (Warm Peak Inspired).

What yoga trainings have you taken?

I have taken a 200 hour YTT, a 300 hour YTT, Adjuster’s Training, Sacred Elders, Critical Alignment Levels 1, 2 and 3, and Yin.

Wow Liz that is some serious yoga learnings! Clearly you are passionate. We feel that in your classes too. Why do you teach yoga?

For me, this practice has been life-changing, awe-inspiring and incredibly healing. Everyone can benefit from yoga, without a doubt. Teaching provides the opportunity to share the benefits of this practice with others, supporting and encouraging any change individuals may be seeking.
It was an immediate sense of relief, falling into my yoga practice. One practice became two, three and four within the first week, and provided the opportunity to move into my body and feel my breath on a different level than ever before. More than 10 years later, I still experience that sense of magic every time I step on my mat. For me, the practice is infinite, creating balance and steadiness, while encouraging growth and exploration. Teaching is a privilege and my goal is to provide opportunity to connect, to feel grounded, to safely step into change, and to hear one’s body.

We are grateful you do! Share something we might not know about you?

I really love documentaries. I’ll watch all topics – biographical to expository to true crime, and then distill them down and tell anyone who will listen all about them.

I would love to listen. Always looking for a good documentary to watch!
In the documentary of our lives, what advice would you give your younger self? What words of wisdom would you impart?

Love more, fear less.

In the world of love, do you have a favorite indulgence?

I have a number of them… books, music, movement, chocolate, cheese, wine. It all depends on the day.

What makes a great day for you?

A balance of scheduled and unscheduled time. Or, reading a book and then watching a documentary while drinking wine and eating cheese and chocolate would pretty much do it.

Sounds delicious for the mind and the belly. Share with us your favourite quote, song, poem, saying…

“Learning is the only thing the mind never exhausts, never fears, and never regrets.”- Leonardo da Vinci.
