Massage helps you relax, relieve tension, and de-stress, and it also helps boost your immune system by increasing white blood cell counts. Massage is not only good for your muscles, especially after a long week of arduous workouts, but also helps the rest of your body and your mind.
Deep tissue massage is popular with athletes whose muscles are continually under a lot of stress. The pressure is medium to deep, and the therapist stays within the comfort level of the client.
The strokes are broad and deep and the therapist may have the muscle in motion while applying the pressure.
Swedish massage is a relaxation massage. It is normally light to medium pressure and the goal is to relax muscles and fascia. Swedish massage is effective for promoting circulation and lymph drainage.
Prenatal massage is done with the mother lying on her side for most of the massage. It’s similar to a therapeutic massage, targeting areas that are causing the most discomfort.
Therapeutic massage is performed with the intention to promote healing of stiff, sore, injured muscles. A goal for the massage is determined at the beginning, and the massage pressure is specific to the comfort and needs of the client.
