December Community Partner: Steeling Home

Tis the season for a few extra purchases and our December partner is a favorite on 17th Avenue for unique and awesome gifts. Steeling Home is the ideal place to purchase something for a child, adult, friend, lover, yogi, Mom, Dad, sister, brother, teacher, co-worker, or well like anyone and everyone. Seriously if you haven’t been you will have to take our word! You will find one of a kind, thoughtful, adorable, Canadian, practical, whimsical, beautiful, intelligent, playful items.

How did Steeling Home come to be?

The Store started initially as an artist run co-op in 1993. It was created as a venue to show case steel and metal work- hence the name Steeling Home. The store has continued under the direction of one of the original artists, Jennifer Leblond, who still runs it today!

That’s so great! How do you source out all your treasures?

We source out our treasures from far and wide but really try to find as many locally made pieces as possible (just so much talent here). An emphasis is made to not only select fun and whimsical items, but also useful and wearable wares.

Tis the season for some of us to be shopping for gifts. You have so many unique and diverse items in your store. Can you share with us some of this seasons favorites?

This season some of our favs are the robot and astronaut snow globes! We have also maps with hand embroidered hearts over Alberta and Calgary that are adorable. We just received a beautiful box of whimsical hand made ceramic face mugs and pots by local artist Rima which we love.
All of the fly fishing hand tied gift sets and mugs are a huge seller this time of year. We also have lots of hand screened t -shirts and hats…the list goes on (we have a gift guide on our webs site too!)

I really do think you have something for everyone in your store. I know it is one of my favorite go to’s no matter who I am shopping for. Gifts are great and getting something for yourself is always a treat. So on that note any gifts our yogi’s could get for themselves or perhaps add to their Christmas list?

For the yogi on your Christmas list we have a great variety of locally made candles. We also have some (still!) beautifully made incense floral wands that can be smudged when dry (can also use in the tub). We have cozy yoga socks, lavender eye pillows and soaps by Crystal Bar .These beautiful hand crafted soaps include either sun or moon charged crystals!
We have also just received an order of beautiful muse and moon necklaces from the lovely Franny E..lots to choose from!
