What was your life before teaching yoga?
I had a very hectic but successful 12-year career in Marketing & Advertising. I started as a receptionist in a Print Advertising Agency and ended my career as a Senior Director at an Online Marketing Firm. My life was pretty much the opposite of what it is now.
Why did you start practicing yoga?
I was bored with working out at a gym and was looking for something different to do to unwind and stay fit. At the time, I had no idea Yoga was so much more than a physical practice. And from the first time I stepped onto my mat I was hooked.
What is your guilty pleasure?
I’m sure I have many; but most often it’s baked goods (as I write this I’m eating some homemade banana bread)!
What does a typical day look like in Dawn’s life?
I teach yoga full time and my teaching schedule is different everyday, most days encompass waking up, taking my dog for a short walk then heading out to teach yoga (2-3 classes/day). When I’m not teaching you can find me eating (I love to eat), practicing yoga, playing at the dog park, reading a book (more than likely a yoga book) and chilling with my man – not necessarily all in one day; I don’t like to rush around plus it depends on the day!
Where do you see yourself in 5 – 10 years?
Wow, this is a big question…. definitely still teaching yoga. Perhaps not full time as I’m planning on early retirement and living off my husband while I frolic around from one yoga retreat to the next! But seriously, I see myself continuing on my own yoga journey, exploring the depth of this practice and sharing my experience with others – doing what I love!
How did you come to Santosha?
I used to work in the office building next door and a few of us tried out a noon flow – it was one of Candace’s classes and I loved it! I started to practice regularly at Yoga Santosha in 2009 when I took my Ashtanga teacher training with Rameen.
Anything else fun and random you’d want to include?
Fun Fact: I love dancing
Random Fact: When I was young I played the Accordion
